What is recruitment?
Recruitment is a period when anyone is welcome to come out and join us for a number of fun and diverse events. During this time, you will get a chance to mingle with the syzters and learn more about our sorority and what we stand for. This is your chance to ask any questions you ever had about SYZ , pledging, or sorority life in general. Recruitment is completely nonbinding. In other words, there is absolutely no pressure to commit to or join SYZ when you rush.
Why should I join Sigma Psi Zeta?
It's FUN, free and completely non-binding!! Sigma Psi Zeta is a nationally recognized sorority that can provide long-lasting syzterhood and friendship as well as make a positive impact on our local communities. In addition, We are completely excited to meet you! We have a number of fun activities planned for you. We strive to be different from other sororities in that we empower womxn and help our syzters grow to be strong and independent leaders of our communities nationwide. If you are feeling a little intimidated, you are welcome to bring a friend or reach out personally to any of our syzters.
Are there any obligations involved in Recruitment?
There are absolutely no requirements or obligations to join recruitment. In addition, all of the events during recruitment are free of charge. We do encourage those who are interested in potentially pledging for us to attend 1 General Interest Meeting (GIM) and at least 2 other events.
Do I have to be Asian to join?
No. SYZ is a progressive multicultural sorority with sisters hailing from many diverse backgrounds. Though we were a historically Asian-interest organization, we do not, by any means, exclusively recruit those who come from an Asian background.
Can freshmen join?
Freshmen ARE allowed to join! We will work closely with you as you transition into college and ensure that academics are always a priority!
Does Sigma Psi Zeta haze?
NO. Sigma Psi Zeta enforces a very strict non-hazing policy. Our organization's national philanthropy is "to combat the violence against womxn." With this in mind, we are against the disrespect of womxn in all its myriad forms. The purpose of pledging is to help stimulate a bond between the members of a pledge class and the syzters that have already been initiated. It is a challenge and a commitment during which trust is placed in both the pledges and the syzters. Subsequently, we do not mentally, physically or emotionally degrade our pledges.
What happens after recruitment?
If a Potential New Member (PNM) attends the required number of recruitment events, she is then eligible to receive an invitation for an interview. Afterwards, if the PNM is then offered a bid and accepts it, the PNM begins the new member education process. Intakes must have a minimum GPA of 2.7 out of a 4.00 scale.
What is the New Member Education Process?
During this time, new members participate in activities that build leadership skills and establish bonds of sisterhood with fellow intakes, actives syzters, and alumnae. This is a unique opportunity to learn all about Sigma Psi Zeta, create lasting memories and friendships, as wells as develop different management skills. Sigma Psi Zeta strictly follows all University and National rules against hazing and the mistreatment of intakes.
What about my academics?
At both Sigma Psi Zeta and Villanova University, we understand that students prioritize academics. As a sorority, we strive for academic excellence and will always put your academic performance first. Every syzter is committed to support your academic pursuits along the way.
